Sedgwick County inmate dies in detention facility

WICHITA, Kan. – A Sedgwick County inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at about 11:10 a.m. on Dec. 3, 2016. After immediate medical attention from on site staff and responding EMS personnel, the 53 year old man was pronounced dead at approximately 11:45 a.m. The preliminary cause of death appears to be suicide.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Investigation Division were notified.

His identity is being withheld at the request of his family. He was booked into the Sedgwick County Detention Facility on November 15, 2016 on felony charges.

The Sedgwick County Detention Facility has currently booked 24,608 persons in 2016. This is the fourth in-custody death for 2016 and first possible suicide.
