A 36-year-old Langdon man scheduled for trial next week in one of two drug cases saw it continued when his Wichita attorney, John Sullivan asked to be removed from the case telling Judge Trish Rose that communication between him and Ricky Cullum have broken down. He told the judge that because of that, he thinks its in the best interest of everyone, if someone else be assigned to represent Cullum.
Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton told the court that the state is ready for trial next week, but also indicated that he could not recall anytime since he has been in Hutchinson that Mr. Sullivan asked to be removed from any case. He says he has no problem with Sullivan’s request.
Judge Rose was reluctant to continue the trial saying if she does, that would mean the fourth setting they have made in this case, but in the end, allowed Sullivan to withdraw.
Cullum has two cases pending before the court. In one of the cases, Cullum was arrested after the Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant at his home while living in Hutchinson at 108 East 9th. That was back on January 13th.
In that case, he’s charged with attempt to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to manufacture, possession of marijuana with intent to sell within a 1,000 feet of a school, possession of meth, possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, one with intent to package a controlled substance, a personal use charge,, and no drug tax stamp.
He also faces trial in the other case that goes back to September 2, of 2010, where he’s accused of being in possession of meth, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, criminal use of a weapon, in this case, a pair of metal knuckles, and possession of stolen property, allegedly leg irons, and a belly chain belonging to the Reno County Jail. He was also charged with driving while suspended and no proof of insurance.
No new attorney has been assigned at this point, but the judge did tell Cullum that he would need to appear again on April 10.
Cullum indicated he is or will be attending a drug treatment program in Dodge City.
