SALINA – A 78-year-old Salina woman has fallen victim of a computer scam.
The woman says just before 11am Tuesday morning, she received a call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft and that she may have malware on her computer.
She went to a website that she was directed to, and told she could receive 5 year virus protection for $298.47.
The woman gave out some personal information and a credit card number.
She later called Microsoft and found out they do not call people and she then called police.
Salina Police warn to beware of cold calls offering services, and then asking for credit card numbers and personal information.
The woman did get her credit card number changed, but was not able to stop the transaction she made earlier.
