Delven Benjamin “D.B.” Schwartzkopf, 95, of South Hutchinson, died April 3, 2017, at Via Christi Village, Wichita. He was born March 1, 1922, in Colorado Springs, Colo., the son of Benjamin and Magdalena Elizabeth (Abert) Schwartzkopf.

D.B. graduated from Ransom High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps, and was a sergeant and flight engineer on a B-17 bomber. After serving in the Army, he attended a semester at Fort Hays University, and later graduated from Greer Diesel School in 1947. He retired from Mesa Petroleum Company as a plant/meter operator, and was a part-time agent for Manhattan Mutual Insurance Company. D.B. was a lifetime member of AHSGR (American Historical Society of Germans from Russia), Ulysses Masonic Lodge #435, Ulysses Order of the Eastern Star #471, and American Legion Post #79. He was a past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of the Kansas Order of the Eastern Star from 1990-1991. D.B. was always volunteering with the Ulysses 4-H chapters, March of Dimes, American Heart and American Diabetes Associations, and was an assistant Boy Scout master. DB was awarded the Ulysses Citizen of the Year in 1987. He attended South Hutchinson United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: children, Tresa Palmer and husband David of Wichita, Larry Schwartzkopf of Seattle, Wash., and Cheryl Shackelford and husband Mike of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Earl Schwartzkopf.
