One of two suspects in a string of burglaries involving law enforcement was in court briefly Tuesday. It was scheduled in the case against Victor Smith in front of Judge Joe McCarville for a status hearing. But, a motions hearing in the case was continued, because his defense attorney, Charlie O’Hara failed to file a motion questioning the legality of a search warrant in the case on time. So, the judge set another hearing date for March 8.

That means the trial for Smith will most likely be continued.

The 21-year-old Smith along with 19-year-old Sheridan Kiraly are charged with 16-counts of auto burglaries which involve breaking into police and sheriff vehicles, vehicles belonging to public officials or their families, and private citizens. One of the burglary cases occurring on July 1, but most allegedly occurring on Sunday July 3 of last year.

Smith in a separate case is also charged with possession of marijuana.

Sheridan Kiraly is scheduled for a jury trial in this case next month, but also has two other cases pending.
