The 31-year-old man arrested in a shooting incident on Sunday was back in court this morning to continue a first appearance and give him notice of more charges to be filed against him.
Justin Gleason already facing felony charges involving a strong armed robbery back in December now faces more charges after a shooting incident on Hutchinson’s southeast side Sunday.
He was read the charges of seven counts of criminal discharge of a firearm, one-count of criminal possession of a firearm, and one count of aggravated battery on Monday. But, he was getting so angry that the judge out the hearing in recess to allow him time to calm down.
He was brought to the courtroom with his attorney Tuesday morning and was much calmer. He did his talking through Sarah Sweet McKinnon with the Regional Public Defenders Office. Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen told him of an additional possible charges of possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession or marijuana, criminal possession of a firearm, no tax stamp, possession of stolen property, a PlayStation II, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
It was just after 2:30 p-m, Sunday when Hutchinson Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of East Avenue C on the report of multiple gunshots. They apparently found several shell casings on the roadway. A search of the area revealed that at 1105 East Avenue C, multiple bullet holes were found in the north side of the home. A short time later, Daniel Coronado arrived at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center by private vehicle with a gunshot wound to his foot. He underwent surgery at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
Further investigation revealed five adults and two children where in the residence when the shooting occurred. There were no other reported injuries.
Also arrested in the case was 22-year-old Holly Caudillo of 3202 North Waldron. She was charged with seven-counts of criminal discharge of a firearm and one-count of aggravated battery. She’s free on a 45-thousand and will make an appearance at a later time.
Gleason is already facing charges of attempted robbery, attempted aggravated burglary, criminal threat and blackmail, where he allegedly sent text messages to the victim and told him he better have the money, and was coming over to collect. Senior Assistant District Attorney Steve Maxwell alleges he was extorting money from the victim over crack cocaine.
When Gleason showed up at the victims home just after 12:30 a-m on December 15, police were already aware of what was happening and were there waiting and he was arrested on the charges. That case is still pending.
