HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The 25-year-old suspect jailed on a $26,500 bond for allegedly committing a robbery in the city late Wednesday night made an initial court appearance Friday.

Tyler Lee Ford is accused of entering the KwikShop at 17th & Monroe just before 10:30 p.m.with a semi-automatic handgun and demanding cash.

Officers got a tip on the suspect, what he was wearing and where he lived. They then did a search of a home at 825 Lee and found evidence of the robbery.

Ford is also facing a charge of interference with law enforcement when he locked himself in the bathroom and refused to come out.

During a search of the residence, officers reportedly found clothing and a jacket he was wearing during the robbery with cash in one of the pockets.

He was eventually taken into custody. During the court appearance Friday, he asked about whether he had a bond: he does. Ford never asked for a reduction.

Ford was released from prison on May 4 after serving time for convictions of four burglaries, one aggravated burglary and two counts of theft. Those crimes occurred in 2012 and 2013.

He’s expected back in court next week for the formal reading of charges.
