HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Students and community groups will stage a mock car crash at Hutchinson High School as an educational activity at 10 a.m. on Friday in the 800 block of East 13th Avenue, in front of the high school.

The event is organized by the Salthawk SAFE Club, a teen-run, peer-to-peer program focusing on teen restraint compliance through education, positive rewards, and enforcement.

The Hutchinson Police Department, the Hutchinson Fire Department, and Reno County EMS will participate along with several high school students in creating a “real life” scenario of a distracted driving crash.

The staged crash is designed to raise awareness and encourage safe driving through this and future educational activities at Hutch High.
