Two from Wichita face drug distribution charges in Reno County

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two residents of Wichita were arrested in Reno County on drug distribution charges.

Fifty-five-year-old Jerry Burns was in court Wednesday morning where he was read formal charges for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute and unlawful possession of drug proceeds.

He was arrested with 49-year-old Joan Burns in the 1100 block of South Buhler Road by a Reno County sheriff’s deputy.

The state alleges that they had between 3.5 and 100 grams of meth on them at the time of the arrest.

Joan Burns was also arrested for trafficking contraband into a correctional facility. She is free on bond, but Jerry Burns remains jailed on a $14,000. He told Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen that he couldn’t bond because of a federal hold, but the judge didn’t know the circumstances of that matter.

His case now moves to a waiver-status docket while Joan Burns should appear at a later date.
