Kan. man hospitalized after semi sideswipes vehicle, catches fire

STAFFORD COUNTY — A Kansas man was injured in an accident just after 5:30 a.m. Friday in Stafford County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2014 Kenworth semi driven by Toby Jon. Butcher, 53, Lubbock, TX., was eastbound on Kansas 19 just west of the U.S. 281 Junction.

The semi drifted into the westbound lane and sideswiped a 2012 Chevy passenger car driven by Johnny J. Long, 54, Hudson, entered the north ditch hit a power pole, traveled into a field where and caught fire.

Long was transported to the hospital in Great Bend. Butcher was not injured. Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
