Hunting accident injures 11-year-old

RENO COUNTY, Kan. — A hunting accident in the county was reported to a Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputy at St. Joseph’s hospital in Wichita.

Thirty-seven-year-old Jean Carlos Alcala of Wichita reported that his 11-year-old son, Gabriel Alcala, and his 9-year-old nephew, Isaiah Quirarte, were all hunting birds at a walk-in hunting field in the 26000 block of South Dean Road in Reno County.

Gabriel Alcala suffered some minor injuries when he was shot in the face by some birdshot. The young man was taken to the Wichita hospital for treatment.

The father accidentally shot the 11-year-old son, according to the Reno County Sheriff’s Office. Wichita media has been reporting that the 9-year-old shot the 11-year-old.

It occurred around 9:45 a.m. Sunday.
