Update on accident at 10th & Main in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The suspect arrested in association with an accident at 10th & Main in Hutchinson made a first appearance where he was told of possible charges in two cases.

One involves a chase where 29-year-old Matthew J. Munoz ran a stop sign and struck an Rcat bus. He was jailed for four counts of aggravated battery, felony flee and elude, felony interference and driving while suspended.

He was in a truck reported stolen by the owner on Medora Road in the county, so he also faces a charge of theft.

It all started just before 5 p.m. Tuesday when an officer attempted to stop a suspected stolen vehicle in the area of 7th and Adams. The vehicle was a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 flatbed.

At the intersection of 10th and Main, Munoz ran a stop sign and struck an Rcat bus that was traveling southbound on Main. After the collision with the Rcat bus, the truck came to rest in the unit block of East 10th.

Munoz fled on foot and was apprehended approximately two blocks from the scene. There were four occupants of the bus that received minor injuries from the collision.

Munoz is jailed on a bond of $100,525 and didn’t request any bond reduction when he appeared in court. He’ll be back on Dec. 6.
