Warrant Scam hitting Reno County once again

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Sheriff’s Office has been alerted of another scam. Citizens have been reporting calls that are supposedly from Capt. Steve Lutz. The scammers say they have warrants the citizen must pay immediately to avoid jail time.

Although Capt. Lutz is with the Sheriff’s Department, the rest of the information from the caller is false.

Sheriff’s officials say they will never call you to inform you of a warrant. They mail a first-class letter informing the individual of such a warrant. They also cannot take the money to make a warrant go away.

Some of the citizens even reported the caller having personal information, including social security numbers. Don’t release personal information over the phone and don’t send money.

If you get such a call and are unsure of its legitimacy, you can call the law enforcement agency to verify the claim.
