One-vehicle accident injures 1

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Emergency officials were dispatched to the area of 82nd and Plum for the report of an injury-accident with possible entrapment around 10:30 p.m.

Officials found a vehicle in the east-side ditch. The passenger car appeared to have driven off the roadway to the right and traveled approximately 114 feet before striking a concrete culvert in the 8300 block of North Plum. It was later determined the juvenile driver most likely fell asleep at the wheel before the wreck occurred.

A 15-year-old driver, who was not identified, had to be extricated by emergency responders. The driver was conscious at the time of the incident. She was later transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries. The driver was wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident.

All airbags inside the car deployed. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Mikes Wrecker.

The accident is still under investigation.
