USD 308 Board plans discussion on attendance and graduation rates

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson USD 308 School Board will hear a report on student attendance and graduation rates for the 2016-17 school year during Monday’s agenda session. The report that will be presented to the district shows that the four-year graduation rate at HHS increased percentage-wise. It will also show that the rate of chronic absenteeism increased by more than 7 percent district wide.

The graduation rate at HHS jumped from 81.5 percent to 85.3 percent with 333 out of 390 students graduating. But the study also shows more students are missing classes district-wide. After showing good improvement last year, the chronic absenteeism rate jumped from 28.2 percent in 2015-16, to 35.4 percent. That means 1,663 students out of a total of 4,695 missed at least 10 days of class in 2016-17. The board will go over the numbers and hear plans for improving those numbers on Monday.

Monday’s Hutchinson USD 308 School Board meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the school’s district offices located at 1520 N. Plum
