HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 41-year-old man jailed for a serious domestic case earlier this month saw his bond increased to $250,000.

Gregory Collins is now charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated assault and criminal damage to property in a domestic case.

It happened around 12:20 a.m. on Jan. 4 when the victim was reportedly attacked with a knife and/or a baseball bat. He is also accused of holding her against her will, putting her in fear of her safety and causing damage to the home in the 600 block of East F.

Even though the injuries to the victim were fairly minor, Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen agreed with the state’s request to increase the bond, in part because of his criminal history, which calls for presumptive prison if convicted. Additionally, he was on a felony bond for another case where he awaits sentencing for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and other charges for a case from February of last year.

She described this latest case as “an extremely serious event” because of what could have happened.

Collins has a history of violence with convictions out of Sedgwick County for aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping.

This latest case now moves to a waiver-status docket while the sentencing in the cocaine case is coming up in the next few weeks.
