HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The 25-year-old man accused of committing a robbery in the city in October of last year entered a plea late Wednesday to a lesser charge.

Tyler Lee Ford was charged with aggravated robbery after entering the KwikShop at 17th & Monroe just before 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 4 with a semi-automatic handgun and demanding cash.

A part of a plea agreement, the state amended the charge to simple robbery. Both sides will be able to argue disposition in the case. The charge is a level five crime with a maximum sentence of just over 11 years in prison.

Ford was arrested after officers got a tip on the suspect, what he was wearing and where he lived. They then did a search of a home at 825 Lee and found evidence of the robbery.

During a search of the residence, officers reportedly found clothing and a jacket he was wearing during the robbery with cash in one of the pockets. He was eventually taken into custody.

Ford was on parole for several burglary and theft convictions when this latest case occurred.

Sentencing will come next month and his past criminal history will be a factor in any sentence handed down.
