HUTCHINSON, Which has become a tradition in Hutchinson every January, there will be some events to celebrate the life of Civil Rights legend, Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr.

The theme this year is “What are you doing for others?”

The celebration begins Sunday with an event at the Stringer Fine Arts Center on the HCC campus event at 3 p.m.

Then on Monday, the celebration of Dr. King continues at 2:00 p.m. at the Second Missionary Baptist Church 1008 North Ford, just south of Gowans Stadium.

There will be speakers and music at both events.

Then Monday, the Cosmosphere at 1100 North Plum will host a community reception to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., the community is invited to the Cosmosphere for performances from local musicians and dance troops. Light refreshments will be served in the newly renovated Cosmo Cafe and the public is invited to view a new exhibit in the museum rotunda, titled “Dream Makers: African-Americans Make Their Mark”- which celebrates the contributions and accomplishments of several African-American astronauts.

All of the events Sunday and Monday are open is free to the public.
