HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission made no decision Tuesday after a public hearing in a planning and zoning case.

The commission heard the request from Mark Nisley for a conditional use permit to establish a facility to produce metal roofing, siding and trim products, along with selling building supplies. He wants to build on land zoned rural residential. The property is approximately 500 feet north of the intersection of South Yoder Road and East Red Rock Road.

The request got past the Planning Commission, so it will now be up to the Reno County Commission to approve. That decision should come next week.

The commission did approve the agreements with SCS Engineers for the 2018 Solid Waste Consulting Services for a cost of $72,900. This amount is a 28 percent drop from the agreement approved last year. Another proposal for the 2018 Air Quality and Gas Collection and Control system was also approved. This is the annual consulting services at Solid Waste at a price of $94,300. This amount is 7 percent more than last year.

Commissioners also approved the request from Public Works for the purchase of vehicles and other equipment during the meeting. That includes a tandem axle truck chassis for a dump truck, three 15 flex wing mowers and two half-ton crew cab long-bed pickups. Total cost for all these items comes to $237,217. They will also sell off the old items on purple wave. These purchases are part of the annual replacement plan for equipment.

The next commission meeting will be on Thursday of next week, which is a change from the normal Tuesday meeting times.
