HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 67-year-old man once again failed to get his bond lowered when he appeared before a judge Wednesday for the formal reading of an aggravated battery charge.

Jimmy Hamby is accused of stabbing another man early Sunday. When Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen read the charge, he again argued that he didn’t commit the crime and wanted a bond reduction, however, he has an extensive criminal history and the state argued the bond should stay the same or be increased. Judge Allen agreed to deny the request.

The case started around 1:50 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, when Hamby apparently got into an altercation with another man in the 3000 block of East 4th. Hamby was accused of breaking into the victim’s room in the residence they apparently share.

When Reno County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived, they found the victim with a severe stab wound on his shoulder. They also found multiple knives on the porch of the residence from the altercation.

Hamby has prior convictions for aggravated battery, burglary and forgery for cases in Reno County, as well as a number of convictions in Sedgwick, Ellsworth and Leavenworth counties.

His case now moves to a waiver-status docket in front of Judge Joe McCarville.
