Commission increases bonding authority for Highlands Sewer project

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It was brought to the attention of the commission that the bonding authority approved last year for the work on the improvements to the Highlands Sewer District 8 would not be enough. The $1.2 million bonding authority for the project had been approved.

Thursday during the meeting, after hearing the need for the additional authority, commissioners approved a new resolution for bonding the project with a new amount of $1,370,000. This allowed them to approve the agreement with Smoky Hill, LLC, of Salina to work on the improvements at a cost of $1,052,236. It also includes an additional engineering cost with BG Consultants not to exceed $30,000.

With the approval, the work should begin very soon on the project north of Hutchinson.

After a brief public hearing, commissioners approved a zoning request for a conditional use permit to establish a facility to produce metal roofing, siding and trim products, and sell building supplies on land currently zoned rural residential. The property is near the intersection of Yoder Road and East Red Rock Road.

Commissioners also approved a number of agreements with the Kansas Department of Transportation.
