HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 31-year-old Arlington man saw his bond increased to $10,000 after he made a first court appearance Friday on charges of aggravated battery, criminal trespass, and criminal damage.

Michael Mason is accused of entering the home belonging to his ex-girlfriend in Arlington early Friday morning. He got into an altercation with her and forced her onto a bed, where he began choking her. Her daughter came in and knocked him off of her.

Mason then left, but was located by Reno County Sheriff’s Deputies a short time later.

The state argued for a bond increase, stating that — when formal charges are filed — a charge of aggravated burglary may also be filed. Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen agreed with the state and increased the bond from $5,500 to $10,000. Mason then immediately asked for an O.R., or signature, bond. That was quickly denied by the judge.

Mason should be back in court next week to see if the state has filed formal charges.

The domestic incident occurred around 4:40 a.m.
