HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 31-year-old man from Colorado was jailed after he led law enforcement on a high-speed chase through three cities in Reno County.

Joshawa Borst was arrested on numerous charges including felony flee and elude, theft or possession of stolen property, interference with law enforcement, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, leaving the scene of an accident, driving while suspended and criminal damage.

It started in Nickerson just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday when a Reno County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to make a routine traffic stop. The driver took off at a high rate of speed down K-14 toward Hutchinson, eventually pulling off onto 6th Street in South Hutchinson. Law Enforcement used stop sticks to try and stop the vehicle. The sticks punctured three of the four tires, but the driver kept going on the rims across the Frank Hart bridge into Hutchinson. Borst kept going until he got to the Cargill Salt plant on East G, where he went through a fence. He damaged the fence and a pole. Borst and his passenger then took off running.

The passenger, 36-year-old Jennifer Heckman, was captured about 30 yards from the vehicle. Officers couldn’t locate Borst. Beckman was jailed for possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute and felony interference.

Around 6:30 a.m., a Hutchinson Police Officer was called for suspicious activity at a home on Osborne. The homeowner said someone was outside her home yelling for help. The officer arrived and found Borst underneath a deck on the east side of the home. He was then taken into custody without further incident.

The vehicle they were in was reported stolen out of Westminster, Colorado.

Borst is free on an $8,000 bond; Heckman has a $4,000 bond and her efforts to get a bond reduction was denied when she made a first court appearance.
