County Commission votes down auction facility request

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — David and Elsie Keim’s request for a conditional use permit to establish a monthly auction house was denied.

The request was for the land David Keim has been using for some time at Red Rock and Switzer Roads, just west of Yoder.

David Keim was at the meeting and told the commission he’s looking at building on property he owns about a mile and a half west on Red Rock Road. However, even there he would need approval from both the planning commission and the County Commission. He was encouraged to get any plans for that property to the county planning department so it can be placed on the March Planning Commission agenda. If approved, he could build and begin operations in May — at the earliest.

The commission did approve a request from the Reno-Kingman Joint Fire District No. 1 to purchase a used command vehicle from the Hutchinson Fire Department at a cost of $3,800. The Hutchinson Fire Department will leave the lights on the vehicle and the radios inside as well. Officials with the fire district say that will save them as much as $3,000. The only additional cost would be replacing the graphics on the vehicle.
