HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission got an update from Reno County Appraiser Brad Wright on the effort to locate and record more non-highway, or salvage, vehicles to the tax rolls. The county wants to make sure residents with non-running vehicles are paying property taxes. Wright has identified 637 vehicles, but believes there are many more.

Wright said residents who don’t intend on doing anything with their non-highway vehicles can turn the title into the state. The vehicle would then be taken off the tax rolls.

They could then keep the vehicle to use as salvage, but would no longer be required to pay taxes on that vehicle.

The commission also approved taking some parcels of land out of Fire District 2 and Fire District 8 so that the land can be annexed by the city of South Hutchinson — where there are plans to build a shopping district and housing development.

The commission approved an agreement with Kirkham, Michael, and Associates of Cheney for engineering services for the biennial bridge inventory and appraisal for a total cost of just under $32,000.
