HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The major upgrade at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center continues on the north side of the current building.

The Hospital’s new ICU unit is moving along at a good pace according to hospital officials. The building project is said to be running about four months ahead of schedule. Even better news: the $23 million project is also running under budget. The hospital used the Construction Management at Risk method of contracting the project, similar to what the city of Hutchinson used for the arena expansion work.

 

Hospital officials say they’ve had great communication with the general contractor Nabholz Construction, which has kept cost down and the project moving along. The new unit is fully enclosed and work is underway on the interior walls and technology. Nabholz was also the general contractor for new emergency facilities work at the Hospital several years ago.

The project also included major upgrades to the current building, which is more than 45 years old. Officials say the building in general is in very good shape, although they continue to work on upgrading its infrastructure.

As of right now, plans are to have an open house and ribbon cutting on the ICU wing by the first week in July.
