HUTCHINSON, Kan. — With another round of of structures being declared dangerous in the city and the continued razing of such properties, the Hutchinson Land Bank Committee wants to have a study done to see how the empty parcels of land can be filled.

On Tuesday, the Hutchinson City Council approved a residential infill study. The study was requested by the land bank and a steering committee that includes staff from both the planning and housing commissions.

The hope is to come up with various ideas and changes to regulations that would make it easier to develop empty parcels of land and make other additions to existing homesteads, such as small apartments or similar structures.

All of this comes after a small group of students from the University of Kansas were commissioned by the city to conduct a study. The study encouraged development standards that were not as strict in terms of setback, density and design types.

The hope is to have a plan in place for a public hearing in July.
