Inmate convicted in prison battery case will serve 10 more years

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 26-year-old KDOC inmate convicted of felony battery of a corrections officer and trafficking contraband in a correctional facility will serve an additional 10 years in prison.

Simon Garcia, who is serving time for aggravated battery and contraband convictions out of Lyon County, was convicted for battering two officers at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility and causing injury. He was also convicted of a contraband charge for crimes from Jan. 15, 2016.

The new sentence will run consecutively to the Lyon County sentence.
