HUTCHINSON, Kan. — In recognition of March being Youth Arts Month, elementary schools in Hutchinson are planning a variety of activities to recognize student artists.

There will be a district-wide art show representing elementary art in Hutchinson Public Schools at the Administration Center. School-wide shows will also be available for viewing in the elementary schools.

Opening on March 7, all sixth graders in the Hutchinson School District are invited to show their best work of art in an online art show. This is the 14th year for the virtual gallery. The show will be available online at www.usd308.com/ArtShow. The public is invited to go online and vote or rate their favorite piece, using the “star” rating system on the website.

From March 14 to April 29, the Kansas Art Education Association is sponsoring a show in the city of Topeka at the Alice Sabatini Gallery in the Topeka Public Library. The following students will represent the Hutchinson School District: Jazmine Bontrager of Graber Elementary School — Grade 6, Rhiannon Heim of Faris Elementary School — Grade 4, Maggie Kaplan of Wiley Elementary School — Grade 3 and Adaynn Word of Hutchinson Magnet School at Allen — Grade 3.

There will be a reception for those students at the Alice Sabatini Gallery in Topeka on April 29 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Then from April 5 to 18, the top finalists of the sixth-grade virtual art gallery will display their art at their individual schools.

On April 19, there will be a reception in honor of the sixth-grade students who won the contest in the virtual art gallery. The reception will take place at the Hutchinson Career and Technical Education Academy, 800 15th Circle, at 6:30 p.m.
