HFD to test all city hydrants

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — In conjunction with the Hutchinson Water Department, the Hutchinson Fire Department will conduct a flow test of every public hydrant in Hutchinson and Fire District #2. The hydrants will be marked with a color code that represents how much flow can be achieved from the hydrant.

This information is important to the fire department during responses. The information is also important to the water department as it plans future projects to provide city infrastructure.

On Monday, weather permitting, fire department officials will be in the 5000 block of North Halstead Street south to 43rd, east to Spyglass addition; all of the Spyglass addition to Inverness Road, south to Sand Hills addition; all of the Sand Hills addition, then west on 30th Avenue to Mission Drive.

Next Tuesday, they will cover all of the Prairie Hills addition, all of Lucille, Orchard Park, all of the Sherwood addition, then Halstead Street from 43rd south to Dillon Avenue.

On Wednesday, they will cover all of the Hillcrest addition; all of the Briarwood addition; Halstead Street from Dillon Avenue south to 30th Avenue, including Lundman, 30th Avenue east to K-61, then back west to Waldron Street; all of Malloy and King streets north of 30th Avenue.

Thursday’s schedule will include Halstead Street to Waldron, 30th Avenue to 36th Avenue.

Finally, on Friday, they will cover 3rd Avenue to Sherman Avenue on Adams Street, Adams Street to Main Street on Sherman Avenue.
