HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After a hearing for 44-year-old James Rodney Quinton was over, Judge Trish Rose took the speedy trial arguments under advisement. 

Quinton, who managed to get his conviction and 72-year sentence overturned for two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy and rape, is now arguing that his speedy trial rights have been violated.

Quinton argues that his attorney, Shannon Crane, never told him that continuing hearings after the appeals court mandate arrived would waive his speedy trial rights.

Quinton had filed a habeas corpus motion in the case, which was denied at the District Court level, but reversed by the Kansas Court of Appeals.

He was originally convicted of sexually assaulting a young woman at a local residence on Sept. 18, 2003.
