HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 25-year-old Hutchinson man managed to get his bond lowered after making a first appearance in court for charges associated with a domestic case.

Bryce A. Smith faces potential charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, criminal damage and disorderly conduct — all associated with domestic violence.

He came home just after 2 p.m. Monday and allegedly found his girlfriend with another man. Smith then became angry, held the victim against her will, slapped and choked her. She told police that she became dizzy and believed — had he held her any longer — she would have passed out. Smith also caused damage inside the home during the altercation.

Somehow, the victim managed to get away. She ran to a neighbor’s home and sought help.

In court, Smith managed to convince Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen to lower the bond. However, the state asked that the bond remain high. Judge Allen lowered it from $110,350 to $75,000 and ordered Smith to have no contact with the victim.

Smith is due back in court next week.
