RENO COUNTY — A 29-year-old Hutchinson man granted two years community corrections in March is back in jail after a weapon, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in his possession.

Dwone Heard is jailed on a $29,500 bond for having the weapon, which officers believe was stolen. Heard was driving with a suspended license.

In court, he claimed it was an illegal stop and said he shouldn’t be jailed. However, Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen found probable cause for the arrest. She also denied any bond modification.

Appearing via video from the Reno County Correctional Facility, Heard became so angry that he hung up the phone.

In March, Heard entered a plea for an aggravated assault charge and possession of marijuana. Judge Tim Chambers ran those two sentences concurrently and granted Heard two years of community corrections.

Originally, he was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute within a thousand feet of Graber Elementary School and Hutchinson Community College.

The case stems from law enforcement serving a search warrant on his home Sept. 1, 2017.

Heard has prior convictions for two counts of aggravated intimidation of a witness, forgery, possession of drugs and aggravated failure to appear.

He will be back before a judge on the new charges next Monday.
