HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Kansas wheat harvest is expected to be the smallest in nearly 30 years, according to the latest forecasts.

A chance to get a better idea of how things look in central Kansas is coming up this week when the Kansas Wheat Alliance makes a tour of the area.

The group plans to visit fields in St. John and Pratt on Wednesday; in the Hillsboro area on Thursday; and then Marquette, Moundridge and Inman in McPherson County on Friday.

The Kansas Wheat Alliance is a not-for-profit organization that was founded in 2007 with the goal of maximizing value for wheat farmers from new wheat varieties developed by Kansas State University.
