TOPEKA, Kan. — Kansas Gov. Colyer signed SB 415 into law. The signing came today at the Statehouse. He did not hold a formal ceremony for the bill signing, but hopes to hold an event in Hutchinson later in the summer to celebrate the bill signing.

“Signing this bill ensures a stable source of funding for the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. This time honored tradition is beloved to all Kansans and I am delighted to see it continue for years to come,” Colyer said.

The bill, which was introduced by Senator Ed Berger, will allow the fair to collect the sales tax it generates — an estimated $400,000 per year. It also stipulates that the fair will remain in Hutchinson. State Fair Interim General Manager Bob Moeder took time to thank everyone for their efforts in getting the bill passed:

 

Now that the bill is in law, Moeder says the fair can make plans for major renovations to several buildings:

 

A signing ceremony will be held July 5 on the fairgrounds.
