HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Dr. Verlin Janzen, Chief Medical Information Officer at the Hutchinson Clinic, will talk with Rotary Club members this coming Monday about the opiate crisis in the U.S. and Kansas, and how this is being addressed at the Hutchinson Clinic with the implementation of a policy on Chronic Pain Management and Use of Opiates.

Dr. Janzen is a family physician practicing at the clinic since October 1985. He also serves as Medical Director for Population Health & Medical Informatics, and Medical Director of the clinic’s laboratory serving 60-plus physicians, two outreach clinics, and local nursing homes.

Before joining the Hutchinson Clinic, he practiced for seven years in Nebraska City, Nebraska.

Dr. Janzen’s undergraduate training and bachelor’s degree are in Medical Technology. He worked as a medical technologist for 3½ years while studying for a master’s degree in laboratory management and administration. He attended medical school at the University of Nebraska and completed his residency in family practice at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Wichita.

The Rotary Club meeting will be from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the Atrium Hotel and Conference Center at 1400 N. Lorraine.
