KINGMAN – We now have a trial date for a Kingman man accused of killing his wife. The date set for the trial for Brett Seacat is August 20.

Seacat is the former trainer at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center near Yoder who’s charged with first degree murder in connection to death of his 34-year-old wife, Vashti Seacat. He’s also charged of aggravated arson, and two counts of endangering a child.

The state alleges that he shot his wife to death, then set their house on fire to try to cover up the crime. The victim was found inside the home which she had shared with her husband and kids.

It was back on April 30 of last year when emergency crews were called to scene just before
4 a-m and when they arrived, they learned that three people had escaped, she was unable to get out.

The judge in the case also set a motions hearing for July 10 & 11, according to Jeff Wagaman with the Attorney General’s Office who are handling the prosecution in this case, along with
Kingman County Attorney Mathew Ricke.
