Reno County Commission moves ahead with Buhler fire station project

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission approved both issues concerning the Reno and Harvey County Joint Fire District 2.

The bidding process can now begin for the addition and remodel of the existing station in Buhler.

The total cost is estimated at $318,685. However, the fire district will use $100,000 from its equipment fund as upfront money, meaning the county will issue a temporary note for the rest. Once the project is complete, the project will be financed with bonds over a 15-year period.

That resolution authorizing general obligation temporary notes was also approved.

Construction on the project is expected to begin in August. The project should be completed by year’s end.

The commission also approved the transfer of up to $150,000 from the county general fund to the Sewer District 8 improvement fund as authorized by a resolution passed on Jan. 25.

The construction of a new lagoon wastewater treatment facility for the Highlands led to some additional costs. The money from the general fund will be paid back once the county issues bonds for the project.
