Dillon’s to build new store in Hutchinson

Dillon’s has announced plans to build a new store in Hutchinson, at 30th and Waldron, and in turn close the Northgate store at 30th and Plum. The new store will be a “Marketplace” store featuring many other traditional and non traditional items. Though the plans are not final Dillon’s spokesperson Sheila Lowery tells Eagle Radio news that they are still working on the final details of the proposal with city officials. If all falls into place work on the new store would begin this year and be finished by 2013.

Lowery says the need for the new store is simply a matter of space and a desire to bring more to Dillon’s shoppers in Hutchinson. The new store will cover 122-thousand square feet and bring 300 construction jobs to the area.

Though the Northgate store is the newest of the four Dillon’s stores in Hutchinson, it is 46-years-old having been built in 1966. When finished, the new store will offer other items aside from food, including jewelry, a salon, and even home furnishings. Employees at the Northgate store were on hand for the announcement earlier this morning. Other Dillon’s’ Marketplace stores are located in Wichita, Andover and Derby.
