A Inman teen reaching for a cell phone while driving was lucky to escape serious injury after his car hit the trailer of a on coming semi on K-61 Wednesday morning. McPherson County E-M-S and law enforcement were called to the scene of the accident shortly after 8 a-m.
According to reports, 18-year-old Zach Colahan of Inman was going south on K-61 when he drifted into the path of the northbound semi driven by 51-year-old Verbin Paxman of McPherson, hitting the trailers axles.
Colahan was taken to Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson with abrasions and other non-life-threatening injuries. Paxman was not injured in the crash.
Authorities say Colahan admitted he was reaching for his cell phone at the time of the accident.
The accident happened near the intersection of K-61 and Arapaho Road, or about a mile north of the Reno/ McPherson County line.
