HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Kevin Loeffler, the Newton attorney for Brennan Trass, filed a motion to withdraw counsel on June 4. Trass believes Loeffler and one of Loeffler’s colleagues are conspiring against him with the District Attorney’s Office. Trass no longer trusts them.

After hearing arguments on both sides, Judge Rose told Trass that she’s running out of options. She said many attorneys don’t want to be assigned the case, considering he’s already been assigned several. Moreover, there appears to have been a conflict with each lawyer. Judge Rose told Trass he might be sitting alone at the table when the trial begins.

Judge Rose asked Loeffler to try and work something out before next Friday.

Trass is accused of murder for the shooting death of 24-year-old Jose Morales. Morales was found on the floor of a residence back on Aug. 17, 2015.

As it stands now, the trial is scheduled to begin on July 23. However, if a new attorney is assigned, that would delay the trial again in the nearly 3-year-old case.
