A 20-year-old Little River man managed to get his bond reduced from 20-thousand dollars to 15-thousand on charges related to guns.

Travis Belt is charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of weapons, and felony theft. He’s accused of having a weapon after being convicted of a felony within the past 5-years, and also giving a weapon to a known drug user.

The state also alleges that he stole a gun from a local store, Bob’s Trading Post, with two more prior convictions for theft. All the crimes are alleged to have occurred on January 26.

Belt told Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen that he’s under supervision in McPherson County for a felony conviction out Ford County. According to the Kansas Department of Corrections, he’s on corrections for possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia in that Ford County case from 2011.

He asked for the reduction in bond so he could be at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for some medical procedure his mom is going through Monday. But, Assistant District Attorney Andrew Davidson argued against any reduction saying that he thought the bond was appropriate considering his criminal history which includes other theft charges, the meth case, and the current charges. He called him a “danger to the community.” Belt denied that he is any threat, and also told the judge he’s no flight risk. Judge McEwen told Belt that the fact that he was dealing with weapons makes him a danger, but then granted a reduction, agreeing that he isn’t that much of a flight risk.

The case will now be placed on a waiver-status docket for April 18, in front of Judge Joe McCarville.
