The Hutchinson School Board Monday approved republishing the district’s 2011-12 budget.

The board’s action allows the district to republish a maximum budget that is more than $1.2 million higher than the budget adopted in August 2011. The increased maximum budget resulted from the district having increased enrollment and high weightings of some of those students.

Both the number of students enrolled and how the individual weighting factors for those students can increase or decrease the district’s budget. The weighting factors, such as vocational or at-risk, account for additional costs involved in educating certain types of students.

The budget will be republished in an edition of this week’s The Hutchinson News and is available on the district’s website — www.usd308.com.

A public hearing on the republished budget is set for 7:05 p-m, on April 23 at the Administration Center, 1520 North Plum. The public hearing will be held during the board’s regular second April meeting.

The board also heard a continuous improvement report from Lincoln Elementary School. The school is in the midst of the Lincoln Excellence Project, which is designed to improve student achievement.

Early on, Lincoln staff looked at best practices to improve math and reading scores for the students, to build positive behavior expectations and to reach out to the parents and the Lincoln neighborhood.

During the school year, staff, community members and parents worked together to create an atmosphere for student success.
