Railroad crossing sting held in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Local law enforcement and the Union Pacific Railroad conducted a crossing safety sting on Tuesday.

A consist of UP locomotives ran from Main Street to 17th Avenue near the mall watching for motorists running around crossing gates.

Six officers handed out 13 citations through Hutchinson Municipal Court and 11 more were written through Reno County District Court.

The fine for running a crossing is not cheap. A municipal fine and court cost is $119. If you run a signal in the county, it’s $313 through district court.
