HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Although the rain has been scattered around the state, the wheat crop is benefiting from what moisture has fallen. According to the latest from the Kansas Ag Statistics Service, nearly half of the wheat crop is in the ground, well ahead of last year’s average of 20 percent.

Seventeen percent of the wheat had already emerged with most of the crop out of the ground in central Kansas. That too is well ahead of last year’s average of just 8 percent.

Soil moisture is doing well in Kansas. Top soil moisture and sub-soil moisture is running up to 80 percent adequate.

The bureau also reports that 47 percent of the fall corn crop has been harvested in the state. Seven percent of the soy beans and 10 percent of the sorghum crop has been taken in.
