HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Emergency Management says Cow Creek has reached a record level of just under 13 feet and will continue to rise through the day before cresting Thursday night.
According to the latest update, there have been seven water rescues since the event started with three of them occurring Thursday morning because of rapidly rising water.
Most roads that are currently closed may not open until next week.
Emergency Management wants to remind residents of some safety precautions if water is encroaching their home:
Disconnect all electrical appliances, but do not touch any electrical equipment if you’re standing in water.
Do not enter a room if you hear popping or buzzing, or see sparks.
If there is water in your basement, do not enter it for any reason.
If your electrical breaker is upstairs and you can safely turn it off, do so.
And most of all, do not enter flood water.
Motorists need to be aware of rapidly rising water across roads. Drivers may approach water covered roads with little or no advanced warning.
