The owners of “Millie,” the therapy dog, missing since March 29, called and said the dog showed up at the residence early Thursday morning.

Reno County Sheriff Captain Wayne Baughman says they were notified at around 4 a-m, by Reno County Communications that the owners had called in saying the dog was found on their porch.

Baughman says the deputy working the case had gone to the owners home Wednesday evening to do some follow up because there had been no information or sightings of the dog.

He says, “it is very unusual that an animal trained for this type work would just get into a car because someone opened the door and called to it. Most of these trained dogs have some type of tracking device in them as well as other identification and they will usually have papers detailing their training. This dog had none of these things.”

They did find out that the dog had some obedience training by the previous owner, however says, Baughman, “there is much we still don’t know.” He says, “until we actually talk to the previous owner, and the current owners who had the dog for about two weeks and that they had provided the therapy dog training, their experience with training animals for this type of work, is yet to be determined.

At any rate says Baughman, the dog has returned home and our investigation continues.
