Hutchinson City Manager John Deardoff comes to the Eagle Media Center to donate money to help with building a 9/11 memorial in Hutchinson.

Eagle radio is trying to help local firefighters to raise money for a 9/11 memorial to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11/2001.

They are currently selling bricks that will be a permanent part of the memorial, but on Thursday morning, they brought an old retired fire engine to the Eagle Media Center and then we asked our listeners to come by and donate money to help build the memorial.

Many of our listeners did just that, and they estimated the raised over 500-dollars in just the few hours they were at our studios.

That included some notables such as retired Assistant Fire Chief Mike Patterson and Hutchinson City Manager John Deardoff.

The plan is to build the memorial east of the new fire station currently under construction on 30th on land near the Westar Energy Plant. The memorial will be located between the fire station and the Dillon Nature Center on 30th.

Look for more joint efforts between Eagle Radio – Hutchinson and firefighters to raise funds for this lasting tribute using a steel beam from one of the Twin Towers that went down as a result of a plane crashing into the building. The planes who hit both towers in lower Manhattan, New York City were hijacked by terrorist.

That awful day also saw a hijacked plane strike the Pentagon in Washington D-C, and a fourth forced down in Pennsylvania by heroic passengers to keep the hijackers from reaching another target in our nations capital.
