WICHITA – A federal jury Wednesday found a Nigerian citizen who has been living in Wichita guilty of gun crimes.
20-year-old Osayuwame Bazuaye was convicted on one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a person who is not a citizen of the United States, and one count of unlawful possession of ammunition by a person who is not a citizen of the United States.
During trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Bazuaye was in the country on a non-immigrant F-1 student visa on Jan. 8, 2012, when he possessed a 9 mm pistol and ammunition.
He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on each count, followed by deportation.
Sentencing will be set for a later date.
