HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Dec. 7 is the 77th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor — the day that pulled the U.S. into World War II. There were 17 veterans from Reno County at Pearl Harbor that fateful day.

The list includes nine who survived the attack and eight who lost their lives. It includes Harold Bates and Everett Windle, who were killed on the USS Oklahoma; Wilbur Ellis and Harold Kagarice, who were among the 1,177 killed aboard the USS Arizona. The nine who survived are gone now. Edgar Kentfield Jr. was the last known survivor of Pearl Harbor from Reno County when he died Aug. 11, 2015.
